"Teaching"

My first hour in front of a class was spent administering a test. I think I did it particularly well, from moving students who were unfocused and distracting their neighbors to motivating them to get going on the test after a rousing recess. But no amount of classroom management could account for the fact that at 8AM, we were told that our class was no longer 5th grade, but now 4th. The assessment was worthless, the students could barely decode the questions, let alone the text.

This afternoon was spent frantically acquiring books, a new long-term plan, and new lesson plans for tomorrow.

Be flexible. Breath in, breath out. Tomorrow is a new day.
